Creepy decoration items start popping up…the need to whip up the best fancy dress costume draws nearer… It’s that time of the year again guys! We’re really excited Halloween is coming, and the pumpkins are here.
To celebrate our producer Chegworth Valley’s fields being stuffed full of them, we’re throwing a pumpkin carving competition! There is £50 worth of shopping up for grabs and it’s easy to get involved.
All you need to do to enter is to send a picture of you (or your beloved friends or family) holding your carved pumpkin masterpiece between now and midnight on Sunday 1st November to us at the email address: [email protected]. Make it scary, funny or whatever you fancy. It’s up to you really! Keep in mind though that we will post all pictures on our Facebook page on the 1st of November and the owner of the picture with the most likes by the end of the competition will win the prize. See below for the Terms & Conditions.
Do take a look Chegworth Valley’s amazing pumpkins in the shop. Like all our produce, they are as fresh as they get as we deliver them to you on the same day they leave the farm.
And whilst we are very enthusiastic about pumpkin carving, we’d like to remind you that it would be a big shame to let the inside of you pumpkin go to waste! Don’t throw away the seeds. They are packed with lots of nutritious elements (vitamin E, potassium, proteins…) and make a delicious snack after some slow roasting. You can also add them to your salads and pasta to add some crunch.
Finally here is some inspiration to make the most of the pulp:
– Boil them up in your cauldron with fresh thyme for a proper autumnal soup
– Throw them into a bubbling pot of risotto for a comforting supper
– Make pumpkin butter. Roast the pulp with a little vegetable oil until tender and mix with sugar, and a little ground cinnamon, ginger and cloves. Spread the mixture across a large roasting tin, dot with butter and roast in a pan at 180c for about an hour, stirring every 15 minutes, until the mixture has slightly caramelised. Give it a good stir and blend if you like a smoother texture. Pop on pancakes, toast, or ice cream.
