Something Different: A Mezcal Welcome Drink

Mezcal is having a moment right now and it’s perfect timing: a warming welcome drink is a top priority at festive parties. Mezcal’s earthy, smoky kick is also proving popular with whisky drinkers – and while serving it neat is one way to enjoy its depth of flavour, we think it also has a place in your cocktail repertoire! 

If you love the idea of revamping a classic cocktail, this one is for you. Swap the bourbon or whisky in your Manhattan cocktail for the peppery, sweet, agave distilled Pensador Mezcal. This cocktail mix isn’t messing around. It’s strong, warming and even looks jolly served with a twist of orange peel. Just add a fire-side location and a few friends. Here’s the how-to: 

The Mezcal Manhattan 


Ingredient ratios: 

  • 2 parts Pensador Mezcal
  • 1 part sweet vermouth 
  • 2 shakes of Angostura bitters per serve
  • A cocktail shaker full of ice
  • Fresh orange peel as garnish

 

Method:

  • Place your coupe or cocktail glasses in the freezer to chill
  • Pour your mezcal, sweet vermouth and Angostura bitters over the ice in your cocktail shaker
  • Shake until your cocktail is suitably chilled
  • Pour into your cocktail glasses, and garnish with a twisted orange peel
