The ultimate Father’s Day gift guide

11th June 2018

Father’s Day is around the corner, and you’re still seeking the perfect present? No need to worry. We’ve put together some handy gift guides to suit every type of food-loving father. Simply add to basket, get them on next-day delivery, and you’ve got a bundle of gifts ready to go. It couldn’t be easier…

The Beer Hound

Bring the beer to your Father’s Day celebrations with the best London has to offer. All brewed and bottled in the capital, we suggest a broad sweep of the range. Try a bottle of award-winning The Porter from Anspach & Hobday and The Pale (also an A&H creation), which is light in body but big on flavour. For a wheat beer with clove, bread, banana, and foraged herbs, throw in Wu Gang Chops The Tree from Pressure Drop, and a traditionally brewed bottle of Gosnells London Mead. We also recommend something from Partizan Brewing, and a couple of cans from Fourpure Brewery so you’ve got all bases covered.

The Cheese-Lover

cheese board

Complement your dad’s cheesy jokes with the ultimate cheeseboard.

Start with the basics. Nothing really beats a deep, nutty Cheddar, and mature Montgomery Cheddar is the perfect starting point. Balance it out with rich, buttery Langres and Eve’s goat’s cheese, then finish your cheese selection with a wallop of flavour; Quickie’s Oak Smoked Cheddar and Isle of Wight Blue are our favourites.

With the cheese sorted, tie the bow with a few added extras. Pop in a packet of crispbreads, a bag of walnuts, some apples to slice up on the side, a nice chutney… and the pièce de résistance? It has to be truffle honey.

The BBQ Boss

The Story’s epic burgers – so good even Adele raves about them

If your dad likes to think of himself as a BBQ maestro, this selection of meats and treats will do the job nicely. A string of wild garlic sausages, a stack of pasture-fed dry-aged beef burgers and – for something a little different – rack of kid goat will take your Dad’s grilling game from zero to hero. If he’s got a taste for the sea, throw in some Scottish salmon fillets. And for the ultimate guide to home-smoking, give him the Ross & Ross Salmon Smoking Kit to turn that salmon into beetroot, gin, or smoky cured fillets at home.

Top it off with some special Newton & Pott tomato ketchup and a jar of toasted garlic mayo and you’ve got one happy dad.

The Spice King

Turn up the heat and give the gift of spice. We recommend mixing it up with a few special spices, such as kaffir lime leaves and black alexander seeds and throwing in one of The Spice Sultan’s perfectly curated recipe kits. We love the Moroccan Tagine with Rose Petal Harissa and the Goan Fish Curry with coconut & ginger chutney. For something a little different, grab a tub of peeled black garlic – ok, it’s not a spice, but it’s gorgeous in stews, Bolognese sauce and on scrambled eggs.

Now that’s one good-looking spice rack.

The Decadent Dad

Halloween trick or treat swaps homemade chocolate trufflesFor the chocolate lovers in our lives, here’s a bundle of decadent goodies to keep that sweet tooth satisfied. This oak-smoked Super Salted Caramel Milk Chocolate Bar from Nomnom Chocolate is divine, or for something a little more saintly, go for The Raw Halo’s organic, raw Dark Ginger & Pecan

Casa Eceiza Chocolate Cigarrillo Biscuits have a layer of chocolate so thick it’s almost a 50:50 chocolate-to-biscuit ratio. Pair it with these chocolate truffles; hands-down the perfect after-dinner (before-dinner, after-lunch, 11am, midnight…) snack. And what dad doesn’t love a nostalgic chocolate button?

That’s the gifts sorted, now what to cook on the day itself? Try this recipe for classic fish and chips, indulge in a Father’s Day Welsh rarebit breakfast, or check out our guide for cooking with beer.
