Fancy a peek into the goings on behind an award-winning food tech startup? Welcome to the 70+ farmers, food makers and our 15 strong, food-loving team who make up the Farmdrop family.
Half of the Farmdrop team who were about on the afternoon of tube strike day! From left to right: Jaks, Tom, Anna, Lori, Lizzie, Carlos, Erik and Myles.
No two days are the same down at Farmdrop HQ. Fresh milk is delivered from Kent at 2am to our hub in Bermondsey on one day, and our buyers will head out to visit an organic farm at 7am the next; one morning our developers will test the latest feature with customers, and that same afternoon a new driver will make their first delivery. As a small, tight-knit team there’s lots to try your hand at, whatever your role. You could be helping the hub team to pack the day’s deliveries in the morning, carrying out a spot of recipe testing for our blog at lunch, or giving feedback on a new piece of functionality later on (and if it’s Friday afternoon, it’ll probably be over a beer).
On our way to Chegworth Valley Farm for a day trip in June. From left to right: Sophia, Ben Pugh, Gem, George, Tom, Mark, Tom, Erik, Lizzie, Anna, Carlos, Susan, Anna, Jaks and Ben Patten.
Born in 2012, our team is headed up the two Bens – Ben Patten and Ben Pugh. Driven by a chance to give farmers a fairer deal, shorten the supply chain and do things differently, Ben and Ben joined forces to create Farmdrop – a website that uses the beauty of technology to connect people who really care about what they eat with local producers who make incredible tasting food. Their vision wouldn’t be a reality without the group of like-minded people, (erm, obviously) who want to make getting access to great food really easy, and have a little fun along the way.
Two office changes and one successful crowdfunding campaign later, we’re strongest we’ve been and are only set to grow. So trips to farms, frequent team lunches and a penchant for local craft beer aside, what is it like to work here?
One of our team lunches complete with Bread Ahead focaccia and Fosse Meadows chicken. Cooking keeps us on our toes.
Tom, Product Lead says:
“Working at Farmdrop is a lot of fun mixed with a BIG challenge. One of the best things has been launching the refreshed site and seeing and hearing people’s reactions. Our customer’s love it and our producers believe in it.”
Anna, Customer Happiness Lead says:
”It’s different every day, which is great because it keeps things fresh and interesting. There are so many things going on and so many ideas – it’s very creative! The team lunches are definitely a highlight…So are the team runs.”
Myles, Software Engineer says:
“In the early days, when there were only 4 of us, I clearly remember running around east London with straw bales and a shovel trying to find an event. Working in one big team is great, everyone helps out everywhere and you see all aspects of the business.”
Just another day in the office…
