Devilled Crab Gratin

Rich and creamy, with warming spices. We've used brown and white crab meat here for a good balance of texture and flavour; just serve with a crisp green salad on the side.

Here's how you do it

  1. Preheat the oven to 200℃.
  2. Melt the butter in a pan and add the shallot, garlic, chilli powder and nutmeg. Fry for a few minutes, until the shallot is softened.
  3. Mix together in an oven-proof dish the crab meat, shallot mixture, creme fraiche, salt and pepper, lemon zest, half of the parmesan and 30g of the breadcrumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the remaining parmesan and breadcrumbs on top, followed by the parsley. Place in the oven for 15 minutes, until the breadcrumbs are golden. Serve, with a green salad on the side.


  • 2 packs of crab meat mix
  • 1 organic shallot, chopped
  • 1 organic clove of garlic, chopped
  • 3 tbsp creme fraiche
  • 1 tsp organic, unwaxed lemon zest
  • 50g parmesan, grated
  • 1 tbsp organic flat leaf parsley, chopped

  • 1 pinch chilli powder
  • 1 pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of black pepper
  • 10g butter
