Mackerel and Fennel Slaw Bap

Quick and tasty mackerel baps, perfect for a BBQ or to pack in a picnic.

Here's how you do it

  1. Put a griddle pan on a high heat, or heat up your barbie.
  2. Oil the mackerel fillets and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook the mackerel fillets, skin side down for 4 minutes, until the skin is crispy and charred.
  4. Make the slaw by mixing together the fennel and red onion with the lemon juice, olive oil, creme fraiche and dill. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Butter up your baps and fill with the mackerel and slaw.


  • 2 mackerel fillets
  • 2 dusted baps
  • 1/2 organic fennel, sliced very thinly
  • 1/2 organic red onion, sliced very thinly
  • juice of half an organic lemon
  • 1 tsp chopped dill

What you'll need

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tbsp creme fraiche
  • salt and pepper
