He works 9 hectares of vines that belong to a total of 20 hectares of the family’s property of Quinta do Paço. Soil is a mix of clay and limestone, benefitting from the cool Atlantic breeze and high humidity of the area. This provides the grapes with a high level of natural acidity that allows Rodrigo to make these bold wines. Organic certified since 2007, however, it is not until 2009 that Rodrigo made his first Humus wine. In the vineyard he uses natural compost and small quantities of copper and sulphur, just when it is required. In the cellar there is minimum intervention, with no sulphites added, unfiltered and unclarified. The red grapes planted are; Castelao, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Syrah, and for whites; Vital, Fernão Pires, Arinto and a bit of Sauvignon Blanc.
