We are chefs who met while working at the Michelin-starred Locanda Locatelli. We thought the quality of ice cream in London could be better, so we decided to do something about it. In 2015, we spent a summer touring Sicily, Calabria and Basilicata, honing our craft with master gelatieri. Hackney Gelato was born on our return. We started selling homemade gelato at Brick Lane’s Sunday market. Word spread among the chef community and today we supply gelato and sorbetto to some of the best restaurants and shops in the country. We are proud to do things properly. Proper ice cream is churned slowly. Really slowly. It keeps the ice and air out of your ice cream so you get more flavour and a smoother texture. We've won 15 great taste stars in the last two years and picked up fans like Nigella Lawson and Jay Rayner along the way. We make everything by hand in small batches in our Hackney kitchen.
