Fir Farm is one of only 100 farms across the whole of the UK rearing sheep 100% on pasture. Certified Pasture for Life and Organic.

Leg steaks come from the leaner part of the leg. Best for: grilling or barbecuing

This lamb comes from a mixed flock of Hebridean, Wiltshire Horn and other rare breeds which thrive on grazing young woodlands, as well as tracks and pastures across the farm. Using a mob grazing system which mimics the natural behaviour of wild grazing animals as closely as possible in a farmed setting, it helps bring significant benefits to the soil, pasture quality and biodiversity.

Produced in:

Gloucestshire, UK

Fir Farm says

Mixed livestock farming is central to our sustainable system, helping to build soil fertility naturally, whilst the animals enjoy rich pastureland with a huge – and growing – diversity of flora and fauna.

Our sheep help maintain the condition of our pastures by thinning out the undergrowth in our woodland areas which reduces mowing requirements and our fossil fuel usage.

Traditional native breeds, known for the full flavour of their meat, Hebrideans and Wiltshires are also naturally good at looking after themselves. They give birth easily and lambs are born with a thick coat to protect them from the elements. They need very little input and grow well on a 100% pasture diet, producing nutritious meat with exceptional flavour.

Meet Fir Farm

Lower Swell, Gloucestshire

Always striving to be as sustainable as possible, we take an holistic approach that works with nature to regenerate our environment, creating both agricultural and environmental diversity. Our objective is to produce food without diminishing our natural capital. Over the last 10 years the farm has transitioned from a large dairy business to an organic mixed livestock farm, fully integrated with a pasture-fed beef herd, sheep, pigs, goats and poultry. Mixed livestock farming is central to our sustainable system, helping to build soil fertility naturally, whilst the animals enjoy rich pastureland with a huge – and growing – diversity of flora and fauna. We also grow some organic arable crops as feed for the poultry and pigs, ensuring that all of our animals are fed solely on food produced on the farm. Our farm landscape is diverse, from permanent pasture and meadows, to woodlands, orchards, rivers and ponds. We have extensive biodiversity across the farm, as well as fertile soils and lots of interesting history, including evidence of ridge and furrow systems from the Middle Ages and Victorian dew ponds.
